New moon rising

Day 22 of 40 Days to Passover and Resurrection Weekend

Beginning April 1, observe the moon as it grows to its fullness on April 15.

This is the Passover moon which is always full on this night.

Tomorrow begins a new month when the moon will appear to be invisible.  It’s what we call the new moon,  when the moon is positioned between the earth and sun.

I became curious several years ago as I observed how the moon is always full on Passover night.  The reason being the Hebrew religious calendar is a lunisolar calendar, meaning the months are based on a lunar month for religious observances while most of the world operates on the Gregorian calendar with its “30 days hath September, April, June and November.  All the rest have 31 except for February what has 28 and sometimes 29. ”

The moon will begin to grow during the first half of April and be at its fullness on April 15, Passover night.

Picture the Israelites in Egypt on the night of Passover, hidden behind blood-marked doors.  The moon was full as the destroyer moved through the land bringing final judgment on heart-hardened Pharaoh and the people he ruled.  And each year thereafter, the moon rose full and bright on Passover evening as they celebrated and remembered.

I found something interesting about this year’s Passover night.  There will be a full lunar eclipse occurring about 2 am EST turning the moon into a “blood moon” for about an hour.  The information provided by NASA is enlightening, for it explains that there will four full lunar eclipses in the next two years.  This is an usual celestial event.

I can’t help but think of prophecy foretelling the moon turning to blood before the great and terrible day of the Lord, the end of this age (Joel 2:31, Acts 2:20, Revelation 6:12).  I remember my dad teaching from the books of Daniel, Revelation and other places in Scripture that promise the return of Jesus.  He told us to watch be ready!

Could it be that the time draws nearer when the Passover Lamb returns in the glory He had in the beginning?  All eyes will behold Him and every knee shall bow before Him.

I pray Maranatha!  Lord come!

We half way through our 40-day journey.  Come on along for the rest of it, won’t you?
